Like this piece, done for friend and my editor at Wing Damage Jonah Gregory.
This is one of the first images that I've released that fully takes advantage of my new tablet, in that with a tablet you can make blocks of solid color. Jonah had me work off the style of the layout of his blog for inspiration, and we both agreed that it should be done in a simple, webcomic-y, Perry Bible Fellowship-y style. I think I was also inspired by the fact that the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is about three miles from my new house (although I haven't been there yet). To be completely honest though, I was just trying to draw like my friend Joey Jacco. This style was such a departure for me that I was surprised that I ended up producing something I was so happy with. I just got my head in that zone and busted it out in a few hours. When I went back to adjust a couple of things that I thought needed adjusting, I couldn't get my head back to that place and had to leave it as is. This is one of those projects that I almost can't even explain, because it was a fully formed idea the moment I started thinking about it. Check it out in action at Jonah's blog!
